Monthly Bookkeeping for Creatives

For artists and creative business owners who want reliable, ongoing financial support and professional oversight.

Monthly bookkeeping provides consistent, accurate financial records so you can make informed decisions and stay compliant throughout the year—not just at tax time.

What I provide

  • Monthly transaction categorization and reconciliation

  • Review and cleanup of income and expense activity

  • Sales tax tracking support

  • Monthly financial reporting (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet)

  • Ongoing oversight to support proactive tax planning

Starting with a Clean Slate

To ensure your monthly reports are accurate and meaningful, your books must be in a current and reconciled state before transitioning to a monthly retainer. If your records are currently disorganized or behind, we will begin with a Moderate Cleanup or Conquer the Chaos engagement to establish a reliable foundation. Reconstruction and cleanup work is billed at my standard hourly rate ($160) and is scoped separately from ongoing monthly bookkeeping/maintenance.

A Collaborative Partnership

Accurate bookkeeping is a partnership. To provide you with high-quality financial records, I rely on your timely input. This includes providing access to necessary data and being available for periodic clarifying questions regarding specific transactions. Our goal is to maintain a consistent monthly rhythm so your records are always ready for decision-making or tax time.

Software & Access Requirements

To provide ongoing bookkeeping, clients must use a supported accounting software platform (such as QuickBooks Online, Xero, Wave, Zoho Books, or FreshBooks) and grant accountant access.

If you aren’t currently using a platform, I can help you select the one that fits your volume and budget—several of these options offer free or low-cost versions specifically for emerging creative businesses.

Note: I do not provide monthly bookkeeping services using Excel or manual spreadsheets. Spreadsheet-based records may be used for one-time cleanup or advisory sessions, but not for ongoing monthly support.

Typical time commitment Most monthly bookkeeping engagements require approximately 1–3 hours per month, depending on transaction volume and complexity.

Billing structure

Monthly bookkeeping is billed on a flat monthly retainer, customized to your business volume and account complexity. Retainer amounts are quoted after an initial diagnostic discussion. Retainers are billed on the 1st day of each month and are due upon receipt to ensure uninterrupted service.
